Political scientist: Presidents’ summit over Karabakh conflict to bring no result
The OSCE Minsk group co-chairs are trying to organize a meeting between the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan, yet they have not succeeded thus far and failed to elevate trust between the parties, political scientist Alexander Iskandaryan told a press conference.
“Sooner or later, the summit will be held, yet that will not generate any meaningful result for the conflict settlement process,” Iskandaryan stressed.
To his words, at this point the main goal of the mediators is to decrease the number of incidents along the Line of Contact.
“The April incidents, however, showed that future developments would depend on Azerbaijani economic situation and the oil prices,” Iskandaryan said, predicting no viable perspective for the quick settlement of the Karabakh conflict in the future.
To him, the prospects of the conflict resolution have even worsened after the Aril escalation.
