Statue “Motherhood” made by Yervand Kochar’s sketches unveiled in Yerevan
Statue “Motherhood” created by the sketches of prominent Armenian sculptor and artist Yervand Kochar was unveiled today in Yerevan’s Nor Nork district.
The idea of creating the statue came from the founding director at Armenia’s Fertility Center Doctor Eduard Hambardzumyan.
“When I had a chance to look at the sketches, I decided to realize that into life. Kochar was the one who was able to link the idea of motherhood, feminity with the universe,” Hambardzumyan told reporters at the opening ceremony.
The author of the statue, film director Ruben Kochar, who is the son of Yervand Kochar, confessed he started the work at the request of Dr. Hambardzumyan.
“I have never created statues and this was something new for me and I took certain risks. Dr. Hambardzumyan was the one who made me believe, saying I bear Kochar’s surname. Today, I am proud on two occasions. I tried and succeeded in statue making and succeeded to revive and complete one initiative of my father - another occasion to speak of him,” Kochar said.
