Two women candidates elected for mayoral posts at local elections in Armenia
Two out 10 women candidates nominated for the local elections, held on September 18 in 317 communities of Armenia, were elected for the mayoral posts. According to the results of the Central Electoral Commission of Armenia, acting mayors of Artamet and Arevashat, Anahit Davtyan and Susanna Gevorgyan will lead the respective communities for a second term.
As the preliminary results indicate, Anahit Davtyan backed by the ruling Republican Party was the only nominated candidate in Artamet. She has been reelected for the post with 96 in favor and12 opposed votes.
In a more competitive election struggle in Arevashat community, the candidate of the ruling Republican Party Susanna Gevorgyan received 363 votes, while her opponent non-partisan candidate Levon Avetisyan – 331.
