Gas pipes pass right under our noses, yet we use pressed cow dung for heating, the villagers’ worries
Sarnakunq village of Syunik region in Armenia has gasification; the gas pipelines operated by Gazprom Armenia pass by the village, yet the residents are unable to benefit from the use of natural gas.
Murad Khachatryan, resident of Sarnakunq, is engaged in cattle-breeding and is unable to heat his house by gas in the winter months. Khachatryan, like other residents of the settlement, instead make use of pressed cow dung, which is jokingly referred to as winter ”BAXI”.
“Gas pipelines are passing next to our houses, yet we are fueling dung which is the only mean for the residents to heat up their houses,” Khachatryan told Panorama.am reporter.
The villagers explained the reason for using dung with the high price for the natural gas. “We are unable to afford 60 thousand AMD monthly for gas,” he explained.
“Dung is quite good material,” 52-year-old Emma Mnatsakanyan, another resident of Sarnakunq joined the conversation.
