Teaching assistant staff to be established in Armenian public schools
Funds for creating teaching assistant staff in Armenia’s public schools were prepared in the country’s state budget for the coming year, senior specialist at Public Education Department of Armenian Ministry of Education and Science Anahit Muradyan told Panorama.am.
“The establishment of the teaching staff is envisaged by the 2014 draft legislation of the Amendments to Law on Public Education. According to that, teaching assistants should be deployed in all public schools throughout Armenia by 2025. There is a timetable adopted by a government decree what regions and schools to start with,” Muradyan informed.
To her words, the novelty will be applied to public schools of Syunik region by the end of 2016. Schools in Lori and Tavush regions will have teaching assistant staff in 2017.
Muradyan referred to preliminary calculations related to the staff deployment, saying one teaching assistant is envisaged per 100 students.
To Muradyan words, the capacities and functions of the teaching assistant are yet to be clarified. However, the project piloting suggests, the assistants will closely work with teachers and support children with their learning activities in the classroom. They also will work on integrating children with disabilities, implement monitoring in the classrooms and analysis of the results.
