Minister of Culture announces priority issues of the sphere
Armenian Minister of Culture Armen Amiryan has stated that the comprehensive review of the book-publishing sphere is among the top priorities of the ministry to start with, suggesting different type of bookstores to serve as a place for family leisure.
“I am more than confidant those kind of bookstores will promote the full cycle of business development of the book publishing sphere,” Amiryan stressed, adding the model is recommended to employ throughout the republic.
Another priority the minister outlined was the digitalization of the books and the introduction of modern technologies.
“Today, the while world today uses digital books, yet in Armenia we lack that,” Amiryan said.
Another top issue the minister vowed to address is the adoption on the Law on Cinema that will enable foreign production companies to shoot in Armenia and be tax-exempt.
“The move will contribute to the development of the film industry in Armenia as well as serve as a tool to present the country abroad. Joint projects should be developed with Russian, Iranian and Chinese markets,” the newly-appointed minister stressed, announcing his plans about relevant discussions with production companies in the coming days.
As to the Law on Theatre, Amiryan said at this point there is no urgent necessity for it, yet the matter requires further analysis.
“Film is a business compared to the theatre, a reason the film industry should be given certain preferences, opportunities, assistance, concessions in order to develop it,” concluded Minister Amiryan.
