NGOs declared October 1 as National Day against Domestic Violence
Number of Armenian NGOs has declared October 1 as National Day against Domestic Violence, thus voicing up their concern over that harmful practice in the country.
Since 2010, when Zaruhi Petrosyan, 20, died after having been subjected to days of beatings by her husband, the Coalition to Stop Violence against Women NGO holds public events every year on October 1 aimed at raising public awareness and mobilizing people to elimination domestic violence.
During the event, held near \Garegin Nzhdeh Metro Station, Mariam Kurshudyan, Program Coordinator at Coalition to Stop Violence against Women, noted that 35 women in Armenian experienced some form of domestic violence over the period of 2010-2016.
The participants highlighted ted the problem of domestic violence in Armenia and declared the adoption of domestic violence laws by authorities as an imperative.
