“Day of Silence” in Armenia ahead of the local elections
Local self-government elections are to be held on October 2 in 373 communities of Armenia’s Gegharkunik, Kotayk, Shirak, Syunik, and Vayots Dzor regions.
Twenty four hours before the voting day a ban takes effect on any election campaigns, events and rallies by political parties, distribution of handouts and political advertising on the TV and radio.
Elections for the heads of communities are scheduled in 36 communities and for the Council of Elders – in 82 communities. Elections both for the head of communities and the Council of Elders will be held in 255 communities.
A total number of 687 candidates for the head of communities and 3 114 candidates will run for the Council of Elders elections.
To note, elections for the Council of Elders in Armenia’s second and third large cities, Gyumri and Vanadzor are to be held on Sunday.
