Armenian saxophonist form Germany Hayrapet Arakelyan has arrived in Armenia to participate in the opening concert of the 4th Khachaturian International Festival to be held today in Yerevan. The musician is about to play a world premiere - DeBour Canfield: Concerto after Aram Khachaturian for Saxophone and Orchestra.

In an interview with Panorama.am, the saxophonist told that the concert contains certain rhythmical structures characteristic of Khachaturian.

Speaking of the cooperation with the Youth State Orchestra of Armenia, Hayrapet Arakelyan said for the first time he had performed with the Orchestra five years age during a concert dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Armenia’s anniversary.

“Since then, I have followed the Orchestra and conductor Smbartyan’s successes, that had great input in the Armenian culture. It is great honor for me to perform in the opening concert of the 4th Khachaturian International Festival,” Arakelyan said.

The musician closely follows the cultural life of Armenia, saying it has been developing over the past ten years.

“Armenia gave birth to numerous festivals, new ideas, renowned soloists, orchestras and conductors are invited to the country to perform, and the auditorium is open to a new kind of music, new trends,” stressed Arakelyan.

To note, Hayrapet Arakelyan is the winner to numerous international competitions. In 2009 he was given the special award “Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben” in the German federal competition of young musicians called Bundeswettbewerb Jugend Musiziert.

To remind, the 4th Khachaturian International Festival, which is organized by Youth State Orchestra of Armenia with the concert programme “Khachaturian Meets Jazz”. In the frames of the solemn opening ceremony of the festival, a photo exhibition will be opened at the lobby of Aram Khachaturian Concert hall. The event is organized by International Photo Union on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Armenia’s anniversary.

The 4th Khachaturian International Festival is held under the high patronage of RA President Serzh Sargsyan.
