There is great interest in the Armenian duduk in Israel, Ilya Mazya says
The concert of an Israeli trio at Cafesjian Center for the Arts will open the duduk festival in Armenia, founder of the festival and director of “Music of Armenia”, Hasmik Movsisyan said during a press conference. According to her, the aim of the festival is to continuously develop the idea of the importance of duduk and its impact in general, preserve and promote the heritage. Hasmik Movsisyan also said that the festival provides Armenian musicians and the interested audience with a platform to get acquainted with the music deeper.
Member of the Israeli trio, Ilya Mazya said that he had moved to Jerusalem from St. Petersburg 25 years ago. “I could hear the music from different parts of the city. At some point, I got interested in national, oriental, church music. I heard Jivan Gasparyan and felt that this music was pretty close to my heart.”
“I would listen to Armenian music and feel that it was somehow mine. I decided to get to know what kind of instrument duduk is,” he recalled.
Ilya Mazya said that they give concerts in Israel, but this is the first time they’re performing outside of the country. According to him, there is great interest towards duduk in Israel.
CCA events coordinator, Maria Hovsepyan said that they’ve been collaborating with “Music of Armenia” for several years, presenting talented musicians.
On October 8 and 9, two Armenian bands will perform at the Cafesjian Center for the Arts and Megerian Carpets within the framework of the festival.
