Mayor of Paris: More countries should recognize the Armenian Genocide
Anne Hidalgo, the Mayor of Paris, who arrived in Armenia to participate in the celebration of the 2798th anniversary of Yerevan, visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial.
Paris Mayor and her delegation laid flowers at the eternal flame and paid their tribute to the victims of the Armenian Genocide with a minute of silence, then visited the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute.
The Mayor left a note in the Memory Book of Honorable Guests. Anne Hidalgo then told the journalists what she wrote in the book. “People cannot move forward without paying tribute to the history. The message is accepting and recognizing the truth. This will enable humankind to develop, prosper and move forward, in other words, this is a call to the world to recognize and accept the truth, it’s a desire for more countries to recognize the genocide, as did France.”
The Mayor of Paris planted a silver fir at the Memorial Alley. During a briefing, she confessed being impressed.
Director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute, Hayk Demoyan handed the Mayor a letter of gratitude made of flowers laid at the eternal flame for the exhibition dedicated to the collection of the Armenian Genocide Museum held at the Paris City Hall in May 2015. City administration informed Demoyan that an unprecedented number of people visited the exhibition.
Anne Hidalgo was also presented with a gold medal and literature on the Genocide.
Demoyan offered the Mayor to hold another exhibition in the heart of France.
Referring to the offer, Anne Hidalgo noted that they would work on it as they always try to support Armenia.
