Sergey Khachatryan: Counterfeit drugs are not produced in Armenia
“Through the course of time we have become convinced that counterfeit drugs are not produced in Armenia, rather they are produced in abroad,” ahead of kicking off the discussion on the ratification of the protocol on “Joining the agreement of 23 December 2014 about “Common Principles and Rules of Circulation of Medicines and Medical Products in Eurasian Economic Union” signed on 2 December 2015” Sergey Kahchatryan, Deputy Minister of Health of Armenia, noted.
According to him one of the most efficient mechanisms of combatting counterfeit medicines is that the countries, that export drugs to Armenia, set up mechanisms to fight the production of such drugs.
“The State only monitors the legal production,” notes the deputy minister adding that the only way of tracking counterfeit drugs is carrying out expertise and following the emergency calls. According to him combatting the production of fake drugs has a great importance and it is a matter of national security.
ANC MP Aram Manukyan mentioned that the majority of painkillers do not reduce the pain. “The doctors themselves advise the patients not to use the local drugs and to acquire them from other countries.” Meanwhile the PM added that it is beneficial regarding both its quality and price.
The Deputy Minister of Health repeated that counterfeit medicines are not produced in Armenia.
“There is a myth that the medicines bought from Georgia are of high quality. But the major number of counterfeit drugs have been named in the Georgian market during the discussions of many international experts.” Khachatryan noted.
