Arpine Hovhannisyan: “Criminalization will reduce the risk and seduction of the illicit enrichment.”
“The Criminalization of illicit enrichment is one of the properties of the new government. The measure will be taken within three months of time. I believe that taking a rapid decision on criminalization will show that the government is willing to demonstrate a political will to fight the illicit enrichment,” Minister of Justice Arpine Hovhannisyan noted during the interview conducted by the reporters in the National Assembly.
In her words the criminalization of the illicit enrichment is not enough. “This measure will work when a number of programs included in the government’s action plan ae implemented on time. Firstly it refers to the law on limiting on cash transactions,” she noted.
According to Arpine Hovhannisyan, this law must be enacted in the declaration of the conflict of interests, namely the scale of correlated people and the officials obliged to submit declarations should be extended.
“The measures are to follow each other. In that case I am sure and hopeful that we will succeed,” the minister mentioned.
In response to a reporter if it is possible to state that in a short period there will be no one suspected of illicit enrichment A. Hovhannisyan noted the following: “There is no country in the world which has ceased to fight corruption or has abandoned the anti-corruption measures. The question is the differences in the scale.”
The minister didn’t make predictions but stated that “the risk and seduction of the illicit enrichment will drastically reduce, if not vanished, as a criminal liability is prescribed in such cases.”
