Relics of Armenian kings unearthed in Aghdzk archaeological site
Exclusive excavations works have been done in historical-cultural archaeological site in Aghdzk village, which revealed some relics of Armenian kings, archaeologist Hakob Simonyan said during a press conference on Monday.
To his words, at first glance the findings reminded of the relics of the Armenian Kings Artashisyan and Arshakunyats that were found not in the mausoleum but under the Church tiles.
“In the church in front of the altar three ancient sealed stone chests were found with one of them carrying the patrimonial cross. The remains of human beings were found in two of them,” said Simonyan.
He was uncertain whether the bones contain the organic materials relevant for a procedure for DNT analysis in order to get answers.
To note, Aghdzk archaeological site of 4th century includes the tomb of Arshakuni kings, basilica church, monuments, and cross-stones shards. The site is a rare symbol of independent statehood of old Armenia.
