According to the results presented by Armenia Demographic and Health Survey (2015-2016) only half of infants under 6 months in Armenia (45 percent) have been exclusively breastfed.
The survey shows that in addition to breastfeeding 12 percent of infants up to 6 months have also been given water, 4 percent have been fed with drinks other than milk, 5 percent have been fed with formula milk and 21 percent have also been fed with additional food. It also informs that one third (33 percent) of infants under 6 months old are fed by feeder bottlers, which is actually not recommended as there is a risk of child illness. 63 percent of children aged 6-8 months have been fed with additional food, 74 percent of children aged 18-23 months have no longer been breastfed.
Nevertheless as the survey shows the figure of exclusively breastfeeding infants up to 6 months old in Armenia has improved making up to 45 percent in comparison with 35 percent registered in 2010.
