General Department of Civil Aviation: Low cost service does not mean insecure flights
Generally, low-cost carriers offer services of poorer quality generally as compared to classic airlines, head of Flight Regulation division at the General Department of Civil Aviation Anna Chobanyan told reporters, referring to the low-cost carrier Pobeda recent announcement to conduct flights from Armenia’s second city Gyumri to Moscow.
“That is normal, since air companies try to save at the expense of curtailing the services to offer affordable prices. In those cases the price does not include any free snacks or beverages. The same is with the luggage, while the flights are operated not by high class airports,” Chobanyan said, stressing low cost service does not mean insecure flights.
“It is impossible for a carrier to operate a flight to Armenia having a relevant license, while failing to correspond to security standards. The airlines fleet consists of Boeing 737- 800 aircrafts, which are operated by number of classic airlines. There is no issue of an old plane, rather a secure flight,” Chobanyan said.
As reported earlier, an arrangement has been reached with Russian Pobeda Airlines to carry out round-trip flights from Gyumri’s Shirak to Moscow’s Vnukovo airport three times in a week, starting from the last week of November. The prices for the tickets will start at 10 000 AMD with flights carried out during daylight hours.
