Department of Civil Aviation: Zvartnots service prices are high for low-cost carriers
Low-cost airline Pobeda refused to operate Rostov-on-Don – Yerevan flights due to the high service price levied per passenger by Yerevan Zvartnots International Airport, according to Interfax agency.
“We decided to refuse from operating Rostov-on-Don – Yerevan flights due to the extremely high prices of the airport service. It levies 50 euros per passenger which is higher than our service price,” an unnamed source at Pobeda airline told the agency.
The source reminded that in July Pobeda gained admission to Rostov-on-Don – Yerevan round-trip flights four times in a week, yet no flight had been conducted thus far.
Satenik Hovhannisyan, Press Secretary at the General Department of Civil Aviation of Armenia commented on the situation in an interview with Panorama.am.
“Zvartnots is not an airport to serve low-cost airlines and has asked them to operate flights from “Shirak” airport. Obviously, the service price at Zvartnots are not envisaged for low cost carriers,” Satenik Hovhannisyan said, referring to the acceptable practice worldwide of using ‘not classic airports’ for low-cost carriers.
To remind, in October Rosaviation granted a permission to Pobeda Airlines to implement flights from Moscow to Gyumri.
