Henrikh Mkhitaryan becomes UNICEFF Goodwill Ambassador
Armenian national team captain and Manchester United midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan becomes United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEFF) Goodwill Ambassador to advocate for children’s rights.
Mkhitaryan’s appointment ceremony was held on Wednesday in Yerevan, where the football player vowed to stand by disadvantaged families and to struggle for children’s equal rights and opportunities.
“I am grateful for entrusting this important role to me. Consolidating our efforts, we will accomplish major results for the protection of each child’s rights. I am excited to announce the launch of our cooperation on the occasion of UNICEFF 70th anniversary. It is the leading organization that has advocated for children’s rights for 70 years, working toward the life protection and development of children, especially the most vulnerable,” Mkhitaryan stated to the press.
Mkhitaryan referred to UNICEFF accomplishments in Armenia, the life improvement of the children and the struggle against child mortality among them
“My cooperation with UNICEFF will be mainly in the education sphere. It is sad to recognize that not all children attend school and have equal opportunities to get educated. I will try to encourage Armenian families to take steps aimed at creating equal rights for children,” Mkhitaryan said.
To note, UNICEF has celebrity ambassadors and supporters in countries around the globe. The ambassadors help to raise awareness of global children’s needs, advocate to world leaders for children’s rights and set an example as globally aware citizens.
