Cafesjian Center for the Arts to launch "Grigor Khanjyan: beyond the Image" exhibition
Today Cafesjian Center for the Arts has announced the launch of the exhibition "Grigor Khanjyan: beyond the Image" dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the prominent Armenian artist.
Grigor Khanjyan's name is closely related to the Cafesjian Center for the Arts which keeps the famous monumental mural painted by the artist. The exhibition features the unknown sketches of the painter which present the three important themes of his works: book illustrations, interior design (mainly church design), as well as the famous mural of the art center.
Cafesjian Center for the Arts aims at presenting the important artistic heritage of the painter which remains unknown to the wider sector of the population. "Grigor Khanjyan: beyond the Image" exhibition, which mainly features the graphic sketches made by the artist, reveals the origin of his famous monumental works.
"This exhibition gives another opportunity to touch upon the contribution of the prominent artsit Grigor Khanjyan to the Armenian culture. Today Grigor Khanjyan, due to his art works, continues his patriotic mission towards the present and coming generations," Acting Executive Director of Cafesjian Center for the Arts Vahagn Marabyan noted.
The exhibition will be held from 10 November 2016 to 19 February 2017. The public opening will take place on 11 November, the entrance is free.
Grigor Khanjyan was born on 29 November, 1926 in Yerevan. In 1945 he graduated from the Yerevan Art College named after F. Terlemezyan. He studied at the Yerevan Institute of Fine Arts (1945-1951) at the AV Bekaryan, EA Isabekyan. In 1953 the artist became a member of the Artists' Union of the Armenian SSR and was elected a member of his reign. In 1963 he was elected as a board member of the Union of Artists of the USSR. In 1973 he was elected as a full member of the USSR Academy of Arts and in 1975 he became a member of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces and member of the Presidium of the Armenian SSR. In 1982 the artist was elected as Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the Armenian SSR. Grigor Khanjyan died on April 19, 2000 in Yerevan.
