Compensation to the families of killed and handicapped servicemen implies insurance payment - not a charity, the minister says
Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Artem Asatryan spoke of the employment of the new system aimed at compensation of the life and health of the servicemen, saying the initiative comes not as a charity, but an insurance payment.
“The system refers to the regulation of full social guarantees for the families of the killed and the handicapped individuals in the military actions. I think any insurance service implies corresponding payments, while the main principle suggested by the initiative is to increase the sum through the widest possible participation. Thus, a system approach is adopted to address the needs of the families of the killed and the handicapped individuals, which will be accepted by the public as well,” the minister said.
To remind, the government approved today the package of suggestions presented by Minister of Defense that propose setting up a special fund to which every working person will monthly contribute one thousand AMD for compensation of the families of the killed and handicapped individuals in military actions. The Fund will also receive voluntary donations from the individuals. The money will be spent exclusively for the insurance payments. The program will have its own Board comprising individuals of high reputation who enjoy the trust of the society which will oversight the entire process which in turn will be totally open and public.
Asked whether the initiative will not be a social burden for employees with low salaries, the minister noted, workers with minimal salaries would not pay, while employers with higher wages would make monthly contribution just one thousand AMD.
At a remark whether a differentiated approach to the amount of the payment conditioned by the size of the salary should be adopted, the minister referred to the relevant discussions underway in the Government and the National Assembly.
