Concert dedicated to composer Tigran Mansuryan’s creative activity to be held in Gyumri “Black Fortress”

A concert dedicated to the celebration of the works of the renown Armenian composer Tigran Mansuryan will be held on November 18 in Gyumri’s Black Fortress. The event will be conducted by Robert Mlkeyan and feature “Requiem”, “The Seasons”, “Parallel songs” as well as other well-known works of the composer.

RA People’s Artist, laureate of state and international awards Tigran Manusryan, emphasized that the upcoming concert in Gyumri is a significant event for him, since he is linked to the city through his roots.

“I have great deal of good memories from Gyumri, that accompanied me through my life both in my thoughts as well as in reality. All these make the concert quite responsible and exciting,” the composer noted on Tuesday during a press conference.

Mansuryan also valued much the presence of RA People’s Artist Hasmik Papyan’s presence in the concert, with whom he has passed a long road of friendship and artistic collaboration.
Meanwhile, the producer of the concert Tigran Virabyan mentioned the fact that the concert is to be held in Gyumri.

“The idea of organizing the concert came several months ago. The Black Fortress has been renovated and opened its doors quite recently which appeared to be a proper venue for holding events of such a scale. I am grateful that our musicians agreed to pay attention to Gyumri with an honor to perform there. We also are thankful to Hasmik Papyan who has arrived in Armenian for the concert,” Virabyan told reporters.

Yerevan State Chamber Choir (Artistic Director and Conductor Harutyun Topikyan) Armenian State Chamber Choir (Artistic Director and General conductor Robert Mlkeyan) National Chamber Orchestra of Armenia (Artistic Director and General Conductor Vahan Martirosyan) will perform at the concert.

Ra People’s Artist Hasmik Papyan also highlighted the fact that the concert will be held in Gyumri. “My mother is from Gyumri, and I spent my childhood in the city with a deep spiritual links to its residents. I am not indifferent to anything which is related to Gyumri and its future,” Papyan said.

To note, the concert is organized with the support of Armenia ’s Ministry of Culture. Head of Modern Art Department at Ministry Lilia Nikoyan informed that similar events are scheduled to be held in Black Fortress in the future.
“The place will become a major venue for artistic celebrations, and international festivals will be organized there,” Mrs. Nikoyan said.

To remind, the big, round, black fortress on the top of the hill overlooking Gyumri was served as the southern castle of ancient Alexandrapol fortress. It once protected the Russian Empire from the Ottoman Empire. The excavations around the area of the fortress uncovered many artifacts from 7th century and even older, proving that the fort was built on top of an ancient structure. The building was renovated months ago to serve as a large concert hall.
