Anand wins Champions Showdown in St Louis
Viswanathan Anand of India won the 2016 Champions Showdown in St Louis on Monday, earning $60,000. The exhibition tournament featured three other grandmasters -- Hikaru Nakamura came second, Fabiano Caruana (US) third and Veselin Topalov (Bulgaria) fourth, espn.in reported.
While Anand finished with 15 points, Nakamura, Caruana and Topalov scored 14, 11 and 8, respectively.
The tournament was played across five days, with two classical round robins, two rapid round robins and four blitz round robins, thus giving each competitor 24 matches in all.
Anand won seven matches and drew 16. His only defeat came on the final day of competition against Nakamura.
