Artsakh people to join one thousand AMD initiative, Artur Aghabekyan says
“Authorities of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic have welcomed the legislative initiative in Armenia about the compensation to the families of killed and handicapped servicemen. If the legislation is successfully adopted and comes into force in Armenia, we will initiate a similar draft legislation in Artsakh as well,” Deputy Prime Minister of Artsakh Artur Aghabekyan told in an interview with Yerkir Media TV Channel.
To remind, Armenia’s National Assembly is discussing the package of suggestions presented by Minister of Defense that propose setting up a special fund to which every working person will monthly contribute one thousand AMD for compensation of the families of the killed and handicapped individuals in military actions. The Fund will also receive voluntary donations from the individuals. The money will be spent exclusively for the insurance payments. The program will have its own Board comprising individuals of high reputation who enjoy the trust of the society which will oversight the entire process which in turn will be totally open and public.
“To my personal opinion, this initiative comes too late in our life. We should have adopted this right after the 1994 war. I also deem as normal all the criticism toward this draft legislation. However, all the answers are given and the bill should be crowned with success. The Fund should operate since it is extremely needed for our state,” Aghabekyan stressed.
