Armen Rustamyan: There was a definition in relation to Karabakh, which was unacceptable to the Armenian side
During today's parliamentary briefings Head of ARF faction Armen Rustamyan turned to the disinformation spread by the Azerbaijani media regarding the process of the activities of the Special Monitoring Committee. The Azerbaijani news agencies have reported that a provocation initiated by an Armenian MP has allegedly been prevented by the Committee.
Armen Rustamyan presented a clarification on the allegation noting that he was not supposed to talk about the case as the Monitoring Committee holds closed door sessions and it is not right to turn to it, but as the Azerbaijani media have covered the incident in its unique way, he has to come up with a clarification.
"That MP is me. If any provocation has been prevented it refers to the special committee dealing with conflicts. As the Committee has not yielded any tangible results the head of that Committee has offered to turn it into an ordinary committee. We have opposed the activities of that committee as there is a definition regarding Karabakh which is unacceptable for us. It refers to the definition of "Nagormno Karabakh and occupied territories". Because of this we state that committee cannot ensure impartial discussions," Armen Rustamyan noted.
In his words the greatest provocation was that during the committee's session it has been announced that both the Armenian and Azerbaijani sites have agreed to discuss the Karabakh conflict using that definition.
"This is a provocation and is untrue. We have denied the statement during the committee's session and if they want to engage in discussions of the issue with that definition it does not make any sense to discuss the conflict as the end of the dialogues are predicted in advance," Armen Rustamyan added.
According to him the special committee has turned into an ordinary one but the Armenian side has managed to prescribe a very important demand stating that each conflict can be discussed only if there is an agreement on both sides.
