Said Alaverdyan: Five thousand Yazidi women are held captive by ISIS
"Today the Yazidi (Yezidi) population who are held captive by the Islamic State are used as shields to be sent to the frontline to carry our terror attacks," President of Association of Young Yezidis of Armenia NGO Said Avdalyan noted during today's meeting with the reporters.
According to him Yazidi armed groups are planning to carry out attacks towards the Yazidi villages neighboring Shingal, Northern Iraq and to free the population. "Of course if these military actions are succeeded the ISIS militants will be completely pushed back to Syria, but it can also impose further dangers, as they can acquire new forces and again attack Shingal."
Said Avdalyan believes the only solution will be that Yazidis declare the liberated regions autonomous. This idea is already considered by a number of superpowers, as Germany and the US.
He informed that pursuant to the UN statistics more than half a million Yazidis worldwide have become refugees, 25-30 thousand have died and a total of 5000 Yazidi women are held captive.
