Shavarsh Kocharyan predicts no drastic steps in Minsk Group after change of presidency in the US
Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan recommended not to overemphasize the role of the individuals, serving as Minsk Group mediators to deal with the Nagorno Karabakh (NK) peace process. Kocharyan’s comments came at the reporters’ request to assess the expectations and possible changes following the US co-chair James Warlick announcement to step down as OSCE MG co-chair as well as the recent replacement of the French co-chair.
“Obviously, the appointed one will get familiarized and join the flow that exists,” added the deputy minister, referring to the new and to-be-appointed co-chairs.
As to the change of the of US President as well as the possibility of a new president in France in the upcoming elections, Kocharyan put in the following way: “There are steady institutions and expert groups and in particular with the new president in the United States taking the office, no drastic policy changes are expected. However, the president has other capacities than their representative in the Minsk Group and some changes in certain directions are not ruled out”.
