Tretyakov Gallery announced record attendance for Ayvazovsky exhibition
Moscow Tretyakov Gallery set a record for attendance, attracting 600 thousand visitors from July 29 to November 20 for a large-scale monographic exhibition of Ayvazovsky’s works dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the renown Russian-Armenian painter. According to TASS agency, the number of visitors was more than that of Valentin Serov exhibition.
“The first day of Ayvazovsky exhibition revealed the public interest toward Ayvazovsky as compared to the Serov works,” the representative of the state gallery said as quoted by the source, adding the exhibition was attended by 598 823 visitors, while the Serov exhibition was attended by 486 thousand visitors.
At the same time, the gallery representative expressed readiness to analyze the problems occurred during the exhibition to ensure even greater audience for the coming exhibitions.
To remind, the exhibition presents about 100 paintings and 50 graphic works, 12 works from the collection of the National Gallery of Armenia among them. The curators’ selection allowed the viewers to see the best examples of Ayvazovsky paintings: seascapes, battle scenes, graphics works.
