Shavarsh Kocharyan: James Warlick has mocked Aliyev
There is irony in the statements made by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair James Warlick regarding Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s announcements. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Shavarsh Kocharyan made such a claim during today’s meeting with the reporters.
“If we analyse his statement we can conclude that that he is simply mocking by saying that Aliyev is finally ready to discuss the status of Karabakh which he didn’t talk about previously. This is what Warlick meant,” Kocharyan noted.
Notably during Warlick’s last visit to Yerevan one of the reporters referred to the recent statement by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev about the ‘territories for a status’ approach, asking the Ambassador to comment on the statement.
In response to the question Warlick said all the elements of the settlement are under discussion. “We want a full and frank discussions not only in private between the presidents, the co-chairs but also with the people. President Aliyev opened a discussion over the issue of the status of the Nagorno Karabakh. This is something we should all welcome.
The positions of the two sides may not align but it is important for consideration of the people in Armenian and Azerbaijan as well as ‘for the population in Nagorno Karabakh itself.”
Kocharyan called on not to comment on the "absurd” statements by Aliyev regarding the historical facts and to ignore them.
“That county has an inferiority complex which Is manifested in different spheres,” Kocharyan added.
