Hripsime Khurshudyan: I thought for a moment that I had died
The International Olympic Committee has recently published the regular report of the World Anti-Doping Agency. According to the report Armenian weightlifter Hripsime Khurshudyan must return the bronze medal which she won during 2012 Summer Olympic Games.
Four years on it is difficult to let go the medal acquired with great difficulty and after many years of hard work, however Hripsime is obliged to return it. There are some rules which must be followed. The Armenian weightlifter noted this during today’s meeting with the reporters. She informed that her further steps depend on the decision to be made by the International Olympic Committee.
“The decision has not been taken yet, and there is no information about disqualification. In such conditions I will continue training, till everything becomes clear. If it were up to me, I would not return the medal, but there is a law which is to be followed.
I feel sorry when I see that the Armenian reporters only spread the bad news so quickly. Only one thing has been left for them to write: Hripsime Khurshudya has finally been disqualified. It is not a good thing, especially when the athletes need your aspiration. They choose such horrifying headlines like “bad news”, “very urgent”. When reading them I myself thought for a moment I had died,” Hripsime noted.
The athlete also noted that her future career depends on the decision of International Olympic Committee. If the disqualification period is short, she will continue her activities in the grand sport, if it will be long lasting, she will leave the grand sport but will not quit weightlifting.
“I will do my best to promote women’s weightlifting in Armenia, especially when there are girls who will continue our work. There are two girls in village Kasakh, Sona Poghosyan and Arpine Dalalyan, who have won medals. There are other girls In Gyumri and Artashat as well,” he noted.
