Books offered to children by Arevik Publishing House
Arevik Publishing House, which publishes only children’s books for more than 30 years already, has published 23 new books in this year. Director of Arevik Publishing House Sabet Hovhannisyan told panorama.am that this is quite a serious figure.
“We have mainly published fairy tales, drawing and puzzle books. We try to enrich our publications every year and to take into account children’s needs. And the most important thing is we try to promote the printed book. We try to publish books with good content to introduce some moral perspectives into children's lives,” he noted.
In the words of S. Hovhannisyan, the tales of Hovhannes Tumanyan, Ghazaros Aghayan, the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen are published in small format so that parents can afford buying them at least twice a month.
“Larger books are mainly bought as a present,” the director added.
Arevik Publishing House is trying to present the books of the new authors which have difficulties entering the market. Many publishers avoid taking such a step and booksellers have some concerns as well.
Soon the publishing house will present “The Giving Tree” by the American poet Shel Silverstein.
“That book has become s bestseller worldwide. I am sure children will like it very much. We have translated it into Armenian,” he underscored.
According to S. Hovhannisyan the number of the readers is increasing annually, which can be observed by the number of the sold books.
“We have close ties with “Bookinist" bookstore, which constantly asks us to publish books. The figure cannot be better. They have no issues regarding the book sale,” Director of Arevik Publishing House stated.
He also noted that while electronic books are common worldwide, printed books, especially the children’s books, are wideapread in Armenia. “This is just a wonderful figure,” he concluded.
