Armenian notes to be added to entrance and exit signboards in Akhalkalaki, Georgia
Based on the offer made by the deputies of Akhalkalaki Regional Assembly Armenian notes will be added to the entrance and exit signboards in Akhalkalaki, Georgia. Jnews.ge reports about this.
On November 24, during the session of Budgetary Committee of Akhalkalaki Regional Assembly, the participants made an offer to add Armenian versions to the Georgian notes on the entrance and exit signboards in Akhalkalaki. MP Shirvan Shirinyan came up with such an initiative.
“Pursuant to the Georgian Constitution, one can write notes in any language as long as one writes a note in the official language. We do not violate any law. You are allowed to attach a signboard with a note in any language above your shop, but at first you must add a note in the official language, i.e. in Georgian,” he noted.
The participants of the session have joined the initiative also suggesting to add Armenian notes to the Georgian names of streets and villages.
To note, the signboards located near the entrance and exit of Akhalkalaki only bear Georgian notes. Some of the street signs bear Armenian and Georgian names, but the village signboards are only in Georgian and English languages.
