Defense Minister: Mandatory component of the legislation on compensation for military servicemen not to be repealed
Mandatory component in the draft legislation suggesting compensation in the form of insurance payments for military servicemen killed or handicapped during combat operations and combat duty will not be repealed, Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan told reporters at a briefing on Saturday.
“That [mandatory component] is the is the pivotal base of the proposed legislation and any change may result in edition of the essence of the law,” noted the minister.
To remind, the package of legislative suggestions presented by the Minister of Defense proposes setting up a special fund to which every working person will monthly contribute one thousand AMD for compensation of the families of the killed and handicapped individuals during combat operations and combat duty. The Fund will also receive voluntary donations from the individuals. The money will be spent exclusively for the insurance payments. The program will have its own Board comprising individuals of high reputation who enjoy the trust of the society to oversight the entire process.
Over the past days some circles have circulated reports that the government thinks over amending the draft legislation through replacing the mandatory payment by a provision of voluntary contributions.
The draft legislation that was passed in the first reading in the National Assembly envisages compensation payment to the family members of the servicemen killed or disabled in the military actions.
