Memorial dedicated to Monte Melkonyan unveiled in Turkey
A memorial dedicated to one of the most celebrated Armenian national heroes Monte Melkonyan and other heroes of the Armenian liberation war was opened in a village of Tunceli province in Turkey.
According to the report by Ermenihaber, the inscription on the memorial reads: “We condemn the Armenian Genocide. We pay tribute to memory of Armenak Bakrjyan and Hrant Dink. The Armenian Genocide continues even 100 years later”.
The reports says along with Monte Melkonyan, names of Gevorg Chaush, Armenak Bakrjyan, Manuel Demir, Nubar Yanikyan, Andranik Ozanyan are written on the memorial.
Turkish “Sozcu” newspaper columnist Sayg Ozturk has covered the topic, informing representatives of the Armenian Diaspora from Greece and France attended the opening ceremony as well as labeling the monument as a tribute to “ASALA” (Armenian Secret Army for the Liberation of Armenia) and “PKK terrorists”.
The columnist has turned to the chairman at Talaat Pasha Committee, a Turkish nationalist organization aiming to counter recognition of the Armenian Genocide, who wondered at the fact, suggesting Turkey which is “complaining over the monuments dedicated to ASALA commandos in Armenia, turns a blind eye on the opening ceremony of a monument on its own soil”.
The Turkish nationalist has blamed the Armenian Diaspora for weakening Turkey from within through “cooperating with separatist circles and groups“, while e calling the Armenians living in Turkey s brothers.
