Henrikh Mkhitaryan: My father would be very proud of me
Armenian National team captain and Manchester United's midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan gave a revealing interview to The Players' Tribune, opening up on why his late father Hamlet continues to be his inspiration. Mkhitaryan spoke about his upbringing, football career so far, his transfer to Manchester United, describing his feelings about representing one of the biggest clubs in the world.
“Last summer, my agent called me and said that Manchester United was interested in signing me. It took me by surprise. I said, “Is it real? Or is it just speculation? A few days later, Manchester United’s interest was confirmed when I got a call from Ed Woodward, their executive director. He told me that the club was indeed interested in me. You can imagine how excited I was by that possibility!”, Mkhitaryan said.
In his words, he will never forget that moment [signing the contract with MAN UTD], nor will he forget the time he put on the red Manchester United shirt before his first training session with the club.
"When you walk onto the pitch at Old Trafford, it is not just a pitch, it is a stage," the attacking midfielder said, adding: "If my father could see me on that stage, I think he would be very proud.
