Karine Danielyan: Tram rails removed from Yerevan streets in a time when Paris brings time back
A developed country is not a place where the poor have cars, its where the rich use public transportation, environmentalist Karine Danielyan, head of the “For Human Sustainable Development” NGO, recalled the message from the manifest of an international organization.
At a press conference held on Saturday and devoted to the street security measures in Yerevan, Danielyan referred to the removal of the tramway rails from Yerevan streets, saying the move came in a time when Paris brought them back.
“It was quite interesting to hear Tallinn Mayor speaking at an international scientific conference and presenting what they have done for the ecology of the city. He said public transportation was made free of charge to keep people from driving their cars,” Danielyan said.
The speaker also spoke of the security measures in the streets, suggesting gas and petrol stations, especially in downtown Yerevan, are built with numerous violations of the construction norms.
“God forbid, if a gas cylinder installed in a car explodes during a traffic jam. There are certain issues and risks that require solutions,” the environmentalist said.
