Eastern Aleppo militants in talks with Syrian army on terms of surrender
According to the Al-Watan newspaper citing sources, continuous losses in the region of Aleppo sparked disagreements among the militants. Some of them have launched secret talks with the Syrian army on legalizing their status and leaving eastern Aleppo, to head to the city’s army-controlled western districts. Sputnik News reports about this.
To note earlier the militants rejected the calls of the government forces to surrender and to leave Aleppo. Al-Watan reports that less than 35 percent of the overall city area is currently under the control of the rebels, who occupied the city in 2012.
Over recent months, Aleppo became major battleground in Syria, engaging government forces, jihadists, and numerous opposition groups. Eastern Aleppo is currently encircled by government troops, and the fighting has affected thousands of civilians still trapped in the city.
