Charents Museum of Literature and Arts features 1.5 million items
During this year 5-6 complete archive collections, as well as separate museum items like letters of art workers and literary figures, photos, handwritten works and personal items have been donated to the Charents Museum of Literature and Arts. Director of Charents Museum of Literature and Arts Karo Vardanyan told Panorama.am about this not being able to point out the exact number of the donated items as they are under development currently.
He noted during the last year many people have made donations. “During different events we call on all the participants, who are mainly art lovers, to head to our museum if they have any relics that belonged to our prominent art workers. And the results are tangible. The number of people making donations increases annually,” he noted.
The museum funds are not state sponsored. In the words of K. Vardanyan there are cases when they want to buy an archive or an item that belonged to a specific art worker.
“This year we had an exceptional case: we bought Hamo Sahyan’s archive from his son Nairi. The Scientific Council evaluated the archival collection and we submitted a writ to the ministry claiming that it refers to Hamo Sahyan works, especially when the majority of the archive featured unpublished works of the writer. The ministry provided its support,” he said.
K. Vardanyan noted that currently the museum features over 1.5 million items. “We have the largest repository of Armenia in term of the museum items, but an item might refer to a photo, a postcard or a handwritten notebook comprised of 1500 pages.”
