“Pokr Mher” Educational Complex punishes a child forbidding him to go home on the weekend
“Pokr Mher” (Little Mher) Educational Complex has imposed some forms of punishment on the students which are considered controversial by the RA Human Rights Defender. Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan told the reporters that one of the students of “Pokr Mher” Educational Complex has been forbidden to go home on the weekend as a form of punishment.
“This action contradicts the child’s connection with his/her family. On the contrary, in such cases we should encourage him to communicate with the family members. The child has the right to live with his family. The form of this punishment is controversial for me. Firstly it is to be figured out whether such measures are necessary to apply and how to impose them in case of necessity,” he noted.
A. Tatoyan said that they have already paid several visits to the educational complex as they needed to acquire additional information and hold private conversations with the administration.
“We have summed up the results of our visits and have submitted them to the Minister of Education and Science. We have registered some violations which require key solutions. They range from the treatment towards children up to legal acts, children’s involvement in different works and the form of punishment mentioned earlier. HRD representative has also participated in the discussion held in the Ministry of Education and Science. He has presented our observations regarding this issue which have been accepted by the ministry. Takin into account all of this appropriate orders and assignments have been given,” Human Rights Defender noted.
In his words the educational complex is a closed institution which is dangerous as the level of ill-treatment towards children might be higher and the parents need to be more careful.
