Maria Zakharova: We will do our best to make Nalbandian-Mammadyarov meeting effective
Does the RF consider the meeting between the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan necessary? This question was addressed to the Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova during today’s briefing.
“We are never against such meetings. Here the matter refers to arranging such a meeting. If it is arranged, we will certainly take part in it and will do our best to make the meeting effective and constructive,” Zakharova replied.
She has also noted that each of the two sides has its own schedule and agenda, and if the meeting is held, it should be a complete one with the participation of the Foreign Ministers of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries.
“Currently the experts are working on that matter,” she added.
Turning to the offer made by France about organizing a meeting between the Armenian and Azernaijani foreign ministers in Hamburg, Zakharova has noted that there has been held a discussion on the opportunity of holding such a meeting.
“If an agreement is reached, we will inform about it. I restate that currently it refers to the discussions on the opportunity of holding such a meeting,” she said.
In response to the question whether Sergey Lavrov, who is currently in Hamburg, intends to hold a meeting with Elmar Mammadyarov, Zakharova said that she was not aware of the meeting.
“As you might know numerous interactions take place during the big summits. If there is a need and enough time such a meeting is not excluded,” Zakharova noted.
Earlier the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia will take part and deliver a speech in 23rd OSCE Ministerial Council Meeting to be held in Hamburg. A number of meetings are scheduled to be held within the event.
