Mikayel Aramyants’s house included in the State List of historical and cultural monuments
The government of Armenia has adopted a decision to include the house of a renown Armenian philanthropist Michael Aramyants in the state list of the historical and cultural monuments of the Republic of Armenia with granting historical cultural status to it.
The justification of the decision reads that the complex has been identified as a monument of historical and cultural value by the expert commission of the RA Ministry of Culture for both Armenian People and the study of the history and the culture of Lori region. The decision comes to stimulate its proper protection, regulate the processes related to the protection, exploration, restoration, usage and popularization of the monument.
The government decision comes days after Minister of Culture Armen Amiryan commented on the situation of Yerevan’s Covered Market that saw demolition and new years ago reportedly in violations of the law on urban development and monument preservation. Minister Amiryan told Azatutyun Radio station the Covered Market would have avoided reconstruction should it had been included in the State list.
Remarkably, the monument built in 1952 is included in the State list of the protected monuments as evidenced in numerous releases of the Ministry Culture, that didn’t prevented the complex from massive reconstruction.
