Introduction of intelligent transportation system will save the traffic in Armenia, PM Karapetyan says
Today the regular session of the Governing Board of “The North-South Road Corridor, Sustainable Urban Development Investment and Northern Corridor Modernization” Project was held in the government led by Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan.
Firstly the Armenian Premier inquired about the situation in Upper Lars Checkpoint. RA Minister of Transport, Communication and Information Technologies Vahan Martirosyan reported that the highway is currently open for the passenger vehicles, the Georgian authorities will continue the cleaning activities due to which the checkpoint is expected to be passable for trucks as well. Prime Minister Karapetyan underscored the importance of having a permanent representative in Upper Lars Checkpoint in such emergency situations and he gave appropriate assignments.
As the Information and Public Relations Department of the government informs turning to the agenda the board has discussed the issues of making amendments in the Procurement Plan of Sustainable Urban Development Investment Program - Tranche 1. It has been noted that construction programs for new transport networks have been involved in the program. The new programs are still under discussion.
The board has adopted the results of the consultant's tender for the new public transport network, price and the unified ticket system within the project Sustainable Urban Development Investment Program - Tranche 1. PM has underscored the importance of introducing new contemporary transportation network in Yerevan and noted that consistent measured are to be undertaken in this regard.
“In fact we need to introduce an intelligent transportation system. That will save our traffic, we have no other option. We need to recruit a professional group to establish that network,” Karen Karapetyan noted underscoring the introduction of new ticket system for students and other groups.
Later the board members have discussed and approved the acquisition of tender documents for construction works to be carried out on Babajanyan-Ashtarak Highway under the Sustainable Urban Development Investment Program – Tranche 2 Loan Agreement. It has been reported the highway will be 15 km long with 4-6 traffic flowing lines. The construction works are estimated 36millon AMD.
