Political scientist foresees no new developments looming in the Nagorno Karabakh settlement process
There is a deadlock in the Nagorno Karabakh settlement process as it has been in the previous months, political scientist Sergey Minasyan insisted during the meeting with reporters on Monday.
In his words, after the April escalation all efforts by the Co-Chairs to establish confidence building mechanisms along the Line of Contact yielded no result with the Azerbaijani side turning down the relevant proposals.
Minasyan noted no compromise seems feasible in the emerged conditions.
“Azerbaijan originally feels unease about making concessions in the light of the dominant perception there about being the defeated party. Azerbaijan is even unable to accept the minimum consensus that is available both in Armenia and Artsakh regarding the status [of the Nagorno Karabakh]. Subsequently, no compromise is expected in the foreseeable future as a matter of practical reality to be observed,” Minasyan reasoned.
The political scientist next pointed out Armenia is facing a new wave of arm race, new quality level, that appears to be logical, according to the speaker.
