David Shahnazaryan: Iran fully implements all its agreements
“Iran has always been and continues to be one of the few countries that runs an independent foreign policy acting solely in accordance with its own interests,” Politician David Shahnazaryan noted during today’s discussion of the topic “Rouhani’s visit to Armenia”.
“Armenia and Iran have a large number of common interests in all the spheres. I also want to underscore the fact that we also have common interests in the security sphere and there is a great potential of expanding and deepening the cooperation between the two countries in this very sphere,” he noted.
In the words of the politician Iran has always had a balanced stance regarding the NKR conflict.
“I was still holding power when Iran brokered the peace talks. Armenia has assessed all the efforts of the country positively. In the period when the so-called Russian peacekeepers were about to enter the NK conflict zone, Iran’s stance did not change: the presence of the peace mission cannot contribute to the settlement of the conflict. The stances of Armenian and Iran coincide in this regard as well,” Shahnazaryan said.
Referring to his experience of interaction with the Iranian officials he added that it is difficult to reach agreements with Iran and in case an agreement has been reached, Iran fully implements them.
“This opinion is shared by many people. Iran fulfils all of its agreements,” Shahnazaryan said.
He drew attention on the countries that add fuel to the fire regarding the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. He particularly singled out Russia and Israel.
“In this respect I attach great importance to the fact that Iran’s President mentioned the necessity of the peaceful settlement of the NKR conflict. I have drawn the following conclusion from Rouhani’s visit: it was the most important visit paid to Armenia in this year. Iran is ready to tackle numerous issues and to expand the cooperation in all the spheres. Is Armenia ready for it today? I do not think so,” the politician concluded.
