Tips to deal with holiday stress and hardships according to psychologists
“New Year enables people to put aside some negative phenomena and to proceed mentally preparing themselves for the better things to come,” psychologist Lilit Baghdasaryan noted during today’s press conference turning to the people’s mental state ahead of the New Year.
In her words the holiday has a positive influence on people in this respects.
Psychologist Marietta Khurshudyan noted that in general all the holidays are celebrated with certain expectations. “With all the exhaustion and stress accumulated during the entire year people expect New Year to erase all the bad things, to make things as they were before and to emerge new opportunities. However certain steps are to be taken to realize all these things. We should clearly figure out the changes we want to make,” she added.
In addition to the above mentioned the psychologist thinks that people should make objective judgments on the past year to single out all the achievements and the failures.
As for the pre-holiday stress and hardships Lilit Baghdasaryan noted the following:
“The main reason people face difficulties is that we tend to materialize the holiday. Every holiday is first of all a spiritual value and joy. Preparing for a holiday means preparing yourself to spend a good time rather than settle problems. It is clear that we cannot ignore the material things, however as the material possession has been there throughout the entire year, we need to change our attitude towards the holiday.”
Marietta Khurshudyan added that people do not need to strive to achieve the maximum and noting bad happen if something is missing. “It is necessary to make as much preparations as possible without sacrificing yourself and your mood,” she added.
The specialists advise to write New Year wishes and to prepare small gifts for the relatives. This activities will secure the festive mood. And they also recommend involving children in the pre-holiday preparations, namely in decorating the Christmas tree and the tables and preparing cookies.
