Woman in labor dies during operation in Armenia's Kapan city
“The consultations have not revealed any pathological issues in the woman in labor who has passed away in Kapan,” Head of Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Kapan Medical Center Samvel Nikoyan has told the above mentioned to the reporter of panorama.am. Mr. Nikoyan, who was the doctor responsible for the surgery and childbirth, has mentioned that all the possible medical measures have been taken to save the woman’s life however they have turned out to be useless.
The woman who was in labor between 37 and 38 weeks of pregnancy had suddenly stopped feeling the movements of the baby. She had applied to the doctor who conducted her consultations. Conducted medical examination revealed intrauterine fetal death in the woman.
“The childbirth process began in the woman. We conducted an exam to determine whether to take her to Yerevan or not. After bleeding was observed in her, we took a decision to continue examining her here in Kapan and to transport her to Yerevan if possible,” the doctor briefed on the situation.
The childbirth process accelerated in the woman and at 4:40 am, December 24, she suffered a stillbirth. At 3:30 bleeding process began in the woman.
“The dead fetus can cause disorders in intravascular coagulation. And taking this into account we carried out an injection to enhance coagulation before the childbirth.
40 minutes after the childbirth blood clotting problems were observed in her. The blood was flowing like a river,” the doctor said.
The medical staff decided to inject coagulation enhancing drugs in her, however they failed to stop the bleeding. After consulting with the General Obstetrician-Gynecologist of Armenia a decision has been taken to operate on the woman.
“We decided to conduct an operation to remove her womb. Her hearth stopped during the procedure,” S. Nikoyan noted.
The doctor who had carried out the consultation informed that the woman did not have any issues regarding the blood coagulation.
Nikoyan noted that on hearing about his wife’s death her husband attacked him after the operation. “A group of 20 people attacked me,” he added.
