Iranian news outlet publishes Vartan Voskanian's article on Armenia-Iran relations
“The establishment of Persian Gulf-Caspian Sea transport corridor has a great importance not only for the region but also for Iran and Armenia,” the article published in Iranian daily “Iran” reads.
Turning to the 25 years of diplomatic relations between Iran and Armenia in his article published in “Iran” daily, Chair of Iranian Studies Department of YSU Vartan Voskanian has noted that Tehran and Yerevan have always combined each other’s interests even in the period of the war and blockade imposed on Armenia as well as amid the sanctions imposed on Iran.
Pointing out Israeli Prime Minister’s visit to Baku and the anti-Iranian protests organized in Turkey Vartan Voskanian has underscored the visit paid by Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani expressing confidence that it will boost the bilateral relations.
Turning to the economic relations between Iran and Armenia Voskanian has noted the following: “Currently Iran and Armenia are implementing a number of important programs regarding the energy sphere. In the coming future the Iran-Armenia third high voltage electricity transmission line will be established which will expand the cooperation. In addition to this it is planned to export gas to Georgia by means of Iran-Armenia pipeline.”
Underscoring the establishment of the transport corridor connecting Persian Gulf to Caspian Sea, the expert of Iranian Studies has noted that it plays an important role not only for the region but also for Iran and Armenia. In his words the North-South Highway which is under construction in Armenia, as well as the construction of Iran-Armenia railway will complete this process.
Underscoring the political significance of the Persian Gulf-Caspian Sea corridor Vartan Voskanian has mentioned that on one hand Iran will have an opportunity to increase its influence in the Southern Caucasus and to connect to Europe through Armenia, on the other hand Armenia will manage to break the blockade of Azerbaijan and Turkey.
To note according to the recent survey held in Iran "Hamshary" and "Iran" daily newspapers rank the first and second positions reading the outlets with the highest number of publications.
