Harutyun Khachatryan on dissolution of National Cinema Centre of Armenia
The initiative of establishing National Cinema Centre belonged to filmmaker, Chairman of Armenian National Film Academy Harutyun Khachatryan. During today’s press conference he noted that he made the offer of establishing such a union in the period when Hayfilm Studio (Armenfilm) was to be sold.
“I and Michael Stamboltsyan would not put up with that idea. The Hayfilm staff was promised better conditions. We realised that it all was a big fraud. Cinema was about to be eliminated, thus I suggested establishing a cinema centre, as they are common worldwide,” Harutyun Khachatryan noted in response to the question aiming to reveal his opinion on the dissolution of National Cinema Centre of Armenia and the establishment of a new organization.
In his words the cinema centres are not engaged in film production. They choose programs, provide financial assistance to them and try to distribute the films worldwide.
“Our cinema centre has carried out serious activities in the recent years and we have registered a tangible progress in the film production sphere. Today the view towards the cinema activities has changed. The board of directors should change every year in order to prevent it from turning into a group that provides funds to their relatives and acquaintances. It is a common practice in Armenia,” H. Khachatryan added.
