Turkish police officers detain reporters, call them “Armenian bastards”
Yesterday in the morning Turkish police officers detained Tunca Öğreten, reporter of famous Turkish opposition website Diken, Yolculuk newspaper representative Eray Sargin, Dihaber’s reporters Ömer Çelik and Metin Yoksu and reporter of BirGün newspaper Mahir Kanaat.
As Ermenihaber reports the detentions were accompanied by cruel treatment towards the reporters, as well as house searches and appropriation of memory cards of their phones, computers and cameras.
Ömer Çelik’s arrest raises some concerns. While beating him the police officers used the expression “Armenian bastard” among other curses in order to insult him.
According to the report of the Armenian news agency Agos, the police officers broke into Çelik’s house early in the morning, threw his mother and wife onto the floor and started beating Çelik.
With the intention of insulting Çelik one of the police officers has made the following expression: “You are all Armenian bastards”.
No information has been provided about Mahir Kanaat who was arrested in his house in Istanbul. He has even been forbidden to meet with his advocate for five days.
