Establishment of free economic zone in Armenia-Iran border to kick off in April 2017
During today’s concluding press conference RA Minister of Economic Development and Investments Suren Karayan noted that the Armenian government is taking measures to ensure the access of the Armenian products to the states of the region, as well as to increase the export volumes.
The minister particularly mentioned that Armenia is holding talks with Iranian Institute of Standards and Industrial Research over the matter of making the certification results conducted by Armenia recognizable to Iran, as well as over establishing representations or branches of conformity assessment bodies for food and non-food products.
“This will allow the Armenian products to enter the Iranian market without any obstacles after receiving compliance standards in Armenia,” Suren Karayan noted.
In his words it is expected that in the first quarter of 2017 the competent bodies of Iran will pay a visit to Armenia and the respective agreements will be signed.
Suren Karayan also announced that steps are taken to establish free economic zone in Armenia-Iran border. The concept of the free economic zone has already been worked out and submitted to the Cabinet’s discussion. “It is expected that we will launch the establishment of that free economic zone till April. It will also provide large-scale opportunities for the involvement of new investment programs and will activate the trade turnover between Armenian and Iran,” S. Karayan said.
The minister noted that the excessive contribution charges prescribed for the passenger vehicles have been replaced with insurance payments due to which the amount of payments has been cut down by three times. According to him this step will increase the cooperation opportunities between Iran and Armenia as the businessmen will become better aware of the markets of the two countries.
