Iran to file suit against Turkmenistan over the termination of gas supply
National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) has announced that it will file a lawsuit against Turkmenistan to the international courts following the interference of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry in a gas dispute between Iran and a Turkmen company, IRNA Iranian news agency reports.
The meddling was clearly against the bilateral gas deal, under which the Turkmen side is to provide gas to the parts of the northern Iranian provinces, the NIGC said in a statement.
Filing a suit against the Turkmen company is on Iran's agenda as the talks between the two sides have produced no outcome to solve the dispute over the claimed arrears, and Turkmenistan stopped gas exports to Iran, the NIGC said in response to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry's statement on Jan 3 saying the country has cut off its gas exports to Iran.
“Türkmengaz suddenly and in an illogical manner, contradictory to the agreement, halted gas deliveries to Iran, demanding quick payment of the disputed amount,” the website of the NIGC reported.
